Flammable & Combustible Liquid Storage, Dispensing & Use
Information on this page is designed to assist designers and contractors during the design, installation, and inspection of UST/AST and dispensing installations. If you don't find the information you are looking for, please call us at (605) 692-6323 or email the Fire Department.
No UST, AST or dispensing installation may be installed without a permit. This permit is basically an approved plan review. The approval process begins with submittal of complete shop drawings of the proposed fire protection system to the Brookings Fire Department located at 607 20th Avenue. These designs are checked for accuracy and within 10 days plan review comments will be mailed to the point of contact.
If the associated plan review and inspection fees are not transmitted with the design, an invoice will follow shortly. These fees cover both the plan review and any subsequent inspections and are based on the following:
Flammable and Combustible Liquid Installations
Flammable and Combustible Liquid Installation Modifications
Inspections outside normal business hours/per hour (2 hour minimum)
Re-inspection/per hour (1 hour minimum)
Flammable and combustible liquid installations require acceptance tests and inspections before they are placed in service. The following is a list of acceptance tests and required inspections. You can schedule a test or inspection by calling (605) 692-6323. We request that you please call 24 hours in advance of the test, so we can ensure the availability of an inspector as well as to ensure that all of the trades which are required can be present.
