NONPOLITICAL BALLOT
The following question is submitted to the voters of the Brookings School District #5-1, South Dakota. The opt out of the state's tax limitation will not become effective unless approved by a majority vote.

Shall the Brookings School District decision to raise additional General Fund property tax revenues, in the amount of $5,100,000 beginning with the 2018 property taxes payable in the year 2019 and ending with the taxes payable in 2028, be approved?

Explanation: The School Board of Brookings School District #5-1 has decided, in accordance with South Dakota law, to raise additional revenues by opting out of the current property tax limitation. The additional property tax revenues will be used for general fund purposes only, as required by law. The amount of additional property tax revenue to be raised is $5,100,000 beginning with calendar year 2018 taxes, payable in calendar year 2019. In future years, up to and including the taxes payable in 2028, the additional revenues may be less, and in no case, can the additional property tax revenues exceed the above mentioned $5,100,000 each year. As permitted by state law, the School Board chose to submit directly to the voters of the Brookings School District #5-1 the question whether to affirm or disapprove of the School Board's decision.

A vote "Yes" will increase the tax levy by the amount of the opt out.

A vote "No" will leave the tax levy as it is without the amount of the opt out.
