COLLEGE STUDENT VOLUNTEER NEEDED FOR HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

The City of Brookings has one college student vacancy on the Human Rights Commission effective immediately to fill an unexpired term through May 1, 2019.


The mission of the Brookings Human Rights Commission is to improve human relations in the Brookings area by fighting discrimination through education and a complaint resolution procedure. The Commission seeks to protect the rights of and prevent and eliminate bias and discrimination against individuals or groups because of their sex, race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, disability, familial status, national origin, age, marital status, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or political affiliation, with respect to employment, labor union membership, housing accommodations, property rights, education, public accommodations or public services. The Commission promotes educational activities to make Brookings an inclusive and welcoming community.

The Commission meets on a monthly basis with additional sub-committee meetings. The student member serves a one-year term, and residency is not required.  Applications for Appointment are available at the link or at City Hall, 520 3rd Street, Suite 230, or by calling (605) 692-6281. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk not later than June 1, 2018.
