What offices will be on City of Brookings ballot in 2007?

Council Member - 1 year term (Ryan Brunner)

What qualifications do I need to be a candidate?
Only registered voters of the City who have resided in the City for at least six months immediately prior to the date of election shall be eligible to hold the office of City Council Member or Mayor.

Terms?
The terms of Council Members are three (3) years.

Do I have to declare a political party?
Municipal offices are non-partisan offices. Political party identification is not required.

How do I file for Office?
Petitions may be obtained from the City Clerk's Office. Signatures from 50 registered voters are required.

When is the Voter Registraion Deadline?
March 24, 2008.

Circulating a Petition
Earliest date to begin petition circulation and earliest date to file is January 25, 2008.

When do I file for office?
Deadline to file is February 29, 2008.

When does the term of office begin?
City Council members are elected to office at the second Tuesday in April and take office at the first City Council meeting in May.

What about campaign financial reports?
Campaign financial reports are now required by the City of Brookings. Candidates are required to submit a "Statement of Financial Interest" within 15 days of filing their petitions. To obtain a form, please contact the City Clerk.
