Grievance Procedure
Any person(s), or organization can file a complaint alleging discrimination
with the Brookings Human Rights Committee (BHRC). The complaint
may be filed at a regularly scheduled meeting of the BHRC or be
delivered in person or by mail to individual committee members. Regularly scheduled BHRC meetings are held at the Brookings City
Hall and are open to the public.
Complaints should be in writing and include:
1) full name, address and telephone number;
2) a brief statement describing the date, place, time, witnesses
and nature of the alleged discrimination;
3) what remedy is sought by the complainant(s)
NOTE: To be valid a complaint must be filed within 180 days of
the most recent date of the alleged discriminatory act(s). Complaints
may also be filed concurrently at the state and federal levels.
As a public service the BHRC has published grievance procedures
dealing with various types of discrimination.
Copies of the entire grievance procedure are available at Brookings
City Hall, the Brookings Public Library and Briggs (SDSU) Library.
