Excavation Permits
Permit Required
No person shall make or cause to be made any excavation in or upon
any street, sidewalk, alley or public ground in the city; nor shall
any person remove soil, paving, gravel or any material therefrom
without first having obtained a permit therefore from the City Engineer.
All work performed under the provisions of this article shall conform
to the specifications, rules and regulations of the city engineer
and on file in the office of the City Engineer.
All excavations shall be open trench work unless otherwise authorized
by the City Engineer or by a representative of the City Engineer.
Trenches for all sewer and water service lines, sewer and water
mains or excavations for any purpose between the curb lines of any
street may be refilled with finely graded gravel or the native soil,
if approved by the City Engineer.
Where pavement is cut in making any street excavation, the street
department or the contractor shall replace such pavement, and the
contractor or person making such excavation shall pay for and be
liable to the city for the cost of such replacement.
Any person receiving a permit to make excavations on or about any
street, alley, sidewalk or public ground shall, during the progress
and continuance of the work, erect, keep and maintain signals so
as to prevent injury to persons, animals or vehicles as a result
of such excavations. Any person making such excavation shall, when

the same.
