Fire Safety
One of the most common occurrences for a house fire is the transition
from the warm summer months into a cold South Dakota winter. Whether
it is a flue fire caused by a bird's nest in your chimney or a dirty
furnace that needs to be cleaned, we suggest going through the steps
below to make sure your house is fire safe and winter-ready.
Fire Prevention is something we should practice year around, but
we seem to think about it more in the winter months. Some of the
things we need to think about are smoke detectors. Are they in good
working order? Do they need fresh batteries? Are they in the right
places? Do we have enough in our home? We also need to have furnaces
inspected and fire places cleaned and inspected. We have been getting
more fire runs the last few years concerning Carbon
Monoxide. This is due to more people installing CO detectors
in their homes. We have found that these detectors have saved several
lives in our area.
Please sit down with your family and talk about your fire escape
plans and practice them if you haven't for a while. Have a good
fire escape plan and keep everything in good working order.
Prevention now may save you heartache later.
