The City of Brookings Landfill is committed to a Composting program
of grass clippings, leaves and small branches. The material is turned
in a large pile during the winter months to help it decompose and
then it is screened in the spring to be used as topsoil. This product is
free for the public to use on their gardens and yards. Below is
a breakdown of the material that makes up the compost.
No chemical additives are included in the process. All composting
utilizes natural ingredients in the products that are processed.
Processing includes aeration, watering and screening of decomposed
grass, leaves, small branches and paper yard waste bags.
