Neighborhood Watch Program
For more than 30 years, The National Neighborhood Watch Program
has been one of the most effective ways for citizens to become
involved in keeping their neighborhoods safe.
Neighborhood Watch
is one of the most effective and least costly answers to crime.
Watch groups not only prevent crime, they are
often a catalyst for bringing better services and restoring pride
to a neighborhood.
What are some of the benefits of starting a
watch group?
• Improved Communications with Law Enforcement
• Reduction in Crime
• A More Secure and Better Prepared Hometown
• A More United Community
5 Steps to Starting a Neighborhood Watch
1. Recruit and organize as many neighbors as possible
2. Contact your local law enforcement agency and schedule a meeting
3. Discuss community concerns and develop an action plan
4. Hold regular meetings and train
5. Implement a phone tree and take action steps
In 2008, the Brookings
Police Department is making an effort to revitalize our Neighborhood
Watch Program through promotion
and
education in the community. We are seeking neighborhoods and
residents interested in becoming involved with the program.
The Brookings Police Department has the ability to provide training
in several areas and resources to increase awareness
of issues
faced by our community. We want to work together with the
citizens to find solutions and improve our neighborhoods.
