Seventy-five miles of City streets are monitored by the patrol division which is comprised of six command staff officers and 15 patrol officers assigned to three patrol shifts; day shift, evening shift and midnight shift. The patrol division utilizes a fleet of six patrol vehicles. Typically, these vehicles average 50,000 miles per year in the course of patrol duties. The department also has two police motorcycles and two police mountain bicycles which are utilized for specialized patrol.

The primary function of the patrol division is to conduct routine street patrol and respond to calls for police services. Many of these officers strive to obtain specialized skills and certifications beyond minimum requirements to aid in meeting the diverse needs of our citizens. Some specialized functions include D.A.R.E. instruction in our community schools, child safety seat installation technicians and seat belt safety technicians.
