MISSION
The outdoor warning siren system was established to provide early warning to community residents in time of extreme danger such as severe weather situations. Warning sirens are positioned at strategic locations throughout the City to provide sound coverage for notification of emergency situations.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
There are nine warning sirens located throughout the City. These sirens are controlled by an activation system housed within the Brookings Police Department’s communications center which simultaneously activates all warning sirens at once. The sirens are activated either at the direction of the on-duty supervisor, or upon receiving notification of an emergency situation such as a confirmed tornado sighting.
