MISSION
Traffic Safety is responsible for working with City staff concerning
citizen concerns and requests related to traffic movement within the
City as well as providing school pedestrian safety and youth traffic
safety education.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Traffic Safety Committee
The Traffic Safety Committee is comprised of concerned citizen volunteers
representing schools, business and industry, City staff and law enforcement
to review areas of concern brought forth by citizens. Issues include
parking, traffic flow, signage and traffic signals. The traffic safety
committee reviews issues, listens to testimony where appropriate, and
makes recommendations to City staff or the City Council where appropriate
to resolve identified issues.
Crossing Guards
Crossing guards are stationed at heavily traveled intersections in and
around schools to assist young school children when crossing the streets
for school attendance. The crossing guards are posted both before and
after school.
Safety Town
Safety Town is a collaborative early childhood safety education program
designed to expose four, five and six year old children to potential
safety hazards they may encounter in their daily lives. The course is
taught over a ten day period by police officers, firefighters and an
elementary school teacher. There are six 10-day sessions taught each
year throughout the months of June and July.
