Library
How do I get a library card?
If you are a resident of Brookings County, you are entitled to a free library card. Please present a picture ID which shows your current address when registering for a card. A parent or guardian must sign registration cards for children under 18.
Out of county residents are welcome to use the library. You may get a library card for an annual fee of $20.00 per individual or $30.00 per family.
What are the library's hours?
The library is open 63 hours per week. Those hours are:
Monday-Thursday 10:00 am-9:00 pm
Friday-Saturday 10:00 am-5:30 pm
Sunday 1:00-5:00 pm
We are closed Sundays in August.
How long can I keep my books and other materials?
Books, Compact Disks, Records, Filmstrips, Kits, Audiocassettes, and CD books - four weeks
Periodicals - all magazines but the current issues may circulate for one week.
Vertical File Material, CD-ROMs - one week.
Videocassettes and DVDs - two days
Can I renew my books?
You can renew your books and other materials in one of three ways:
1. You can bring them into the library and the library staff can do it for you.
2. You can call the library at 692-9407 and ask us to renew them.
3. You can log on to the library's homepage at www.brookingslibrary.org and renew them yourself.
Click on Library Resources, then SDLN, then Patron Information (at bottom of page) and follow the directions there.
Your password is your last name.
All items except videos and books on hold for others may be renew for an additional circulation period.
Can I use the Internet at the library?
The library's Community Computer Center has 15 PCs and 3 IMACs for use by the public to access the Internet,
and use word processing, spreadsheet, and publishing software. There is no charge to use the computers.
There is a small charge to print.
Prospective users will sign an Internet Use Agreement prior to their first use.
Young people under 18 years of age are required to have written parental or guardian permission to access the Internet.
